20 Grit at Stockton Tower Records )

20 Grit band played at the Tower Records in Stockon a few nights
ago. I headed down there and checked them out. While they are not
like anything I have in my CD collection (closest thing being Creed's
"Human Clay") I'm shocked at how much I like 20 Grit. I got there
for the second half of their set and they sounded very good. Chaz
got a big smile on his face when I charged through the door of the
place, arms raised in some sort of victory pose "I made it!", and he
never missed a note. Their new singer is very capable. Drummer
rocks - plays with much more touch and finesse than one would
expect in this genre. The guitarist kinda reminds me of Phil (our old
"analogman" here on the forum) only with 2/3s of Terry's hair on
his head. He plays great and runs his signal through a rack setup much
like Terry's (at first glance at least).
The band that played after 20Grit were 3 local young guys. The
crowd was full of jail bait. We commented that we felt old.
I think I posted some comments about this gig earlier but wanted to
make it official. Also, I'm really enjoying their demo CD. Very tight,
melodic, heavy stuff.
