The Bible teaches that mental freedom comes from spiritual truth, transforming your thoughts, and letting go of sin. Key verses include 2 Corinthians 10:5, Romans 12:2, and John 8:32. True peace and liberty are found when a person aligns their inner thoughts with God's word instead of worldly fears. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Controlling Your Thoughts
Take thoughts captive: The Bible tells believers to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ”, as stated in BetterTogether.tv.
Focus on good things: Scripture instructs the mind to dwell on things that are true, noble, right, pure, and lovely (Philippians 4:8).
Control inner motives: Jesus taught that outer actions start from inner thoughts and desires in the heart and mind. [1, 2, 3]
Renewing the Mind
A fresh start: Romans 12:2 teaches that people are “transformed by the renewing of your mind” rather than copying the ways of the world, noted by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. [1]
Finding Freedom
Truth brings freedom: Jesus said in John 8:32, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”, referenced by the Billy Graham Library.
Spiritual liberty: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is true freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). [1, 2]
